2019 Europa League

The 2018–19 UEFA Europa League was the 48th season of Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 10th season since it was renamed from the UEFA Cup to the UEFA Europa League. The final was played at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, between English sides Chelsea and Arsenal, with Chelsea winning 4–1. As winners, Chelsea qualified for the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League group stage and earned the right to play against Liverpool, the winners of the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League, in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup.

The celebrations were blue in Baku as Chelsea won the Europa League with a convincing 4-1 victory in the final against Arsenal.

Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard proved instrumental to our success, with the Belgian involved in three of our four second-half goals and Giroud breaking the deadlock early after the restart. Pedro was also on the scoresheet as we produced the perfect performance on the big stage to take the trophy the long way home to London.

It was a final that took a while to warm up at the Baku Olympic Stadium but the wait proved worthwhile as five goals after the break provided the entertainment for those Chelsea fans who had travelled almost 3,000 miles to watch their team in a European final in Azerbaijan.

Giroud’s brave header buried into the bottom corner set us on our way early after the restart, before two further goals in four minutes placed clear daylight between the capital rivals. Pedro finished expertly to make it 2-0 from a Hazard cross before our number 10 got himself on the scoresheet with a penalty won by Giroud.

While Alex Iwobi briefly reduced the deficit, the final word went to Hazard as he rounded off the scoring at the end of a brilliant move involving Giroud to secure silverware for Chelsea in 2018/19.
